The present standing of the organi- zations entered in the library voting contest as disclosed by the official an- nouncement made last night signifies that a keen contest is being made among the participants. The Michigan Union, the Women's League and the University Y. M. C. A., the campus or- ganizations represented in the contest, are making a good showing, the Union running third, with the Women's League in the eighth place. The contest is still open, any organ- ization, collegiate or otherwise, being eligible to enter the race for the 150 volume library. Anyone making pur- chases at the stores which have com- bined to offer the library is entitled to a vote for every cent expended. Students "Strike" at Arkansas. Because thirty-six students of Ar- kansas University were suspended, as responsible for an anonymous publi- cation charging the faculty with dis- criminating in favor of rich students, three hundred students "struck" and declared that they would not go back to school until the suspended students were reinstated. The faculty met and appointed a grievance committee to confer with the strikers and an amica- ble agreement is expected. Prof. Phillips Lectures to Alpha Nu. Professor V. B. Phillips, of the his- tory department, addressed the Alpha Nu Literary Society last even ing on "The New South." "The current wages," he declared, "are about $4 per month, and represent the earning power of the av--i erage negro. Emancipation did not solve the race question, rather it serv- ed-to change the aspect of the matter." Dr. Warthin. Delivers Two Lectures. Dr. A. S. Warthin delivered two lec- tures in Mt.
