Main St. 87 tf THE NECK OF THE WOODS by the COUNT OF KILLARNEY News items f. om southern universi- ties mention the fact that boxing is proving one .of the most popular stud- ies there. In commenting on this we might say.: They passed laws forbidding our shoot- ing, And Completely outlawed our feuds; They laugh at our family traditions, And pay no heed to our moods. But when our hot blood boils over With passion and rage we are mad, They put us in a squared circle, And hand.us a small pair of pads. Ray Berry of the piano faculty of the School of Musictwasa case in point. The keynote of the program was "ro- manticism." The three composers se- lected were Schumann, Grieg and Chopin, with the emphasis laid upon the first. A suitable portal was pro- vided by the Grieg "Seute," while the Chopin "Nocturne" and "Polonaise Rhapsodie" effectively closed the pro- gram. The piece de resistance was Schumann's "Carnival." Technically,, the pianiste is well equipped, and she made the taxing program interesting to a criticised audience. New W Vhitney . y. Saturday, February 24 .Matinee and INight JOS. M. Chantecler, the all prevailing rage, which has followed the enormous suc- cess in Paris, Rostand's fanciful play, has been seized upon by Jos. M. In this number the girls of the cho- rus are, dressed as barnyard fowls ranging in size and color from the fluffy little yellow easter chicks to full grown, demure hens and haughty roosters. The costumes for this num- ber are made of real feathers and they are as elaborate and costly as anything of the kind ever seen on the stage. "Bright Eyes''- is announced as one of the largest and most successful of last season's musical plays. It enjoy- ed long runs in New York and Boston and played very successful engage- ments in a few of the other large east- ern cities.
