In many courses the faculty will be oblig- ed to give closer attention to the stu- dents than they have in the past, a fact which will also have its influence. The adoption of a s'stem of merits or points for each grade will be a sec- ond step to a much higher standard in this department. If it is necessary to acquire a certain amount of merit to secure the recommendation of the faculty for a degree, the students will be spurred on to greater endeavor. A much needed change has been made by the faculty of the literary de- partment in the manner of grading students, according to their scholastic ability, instead of lumping them all to- gether as "passed" "not passed" and "conditioned." Under the old system there was little incentive to good scholarship save among a very small minority inclined in that direction. ,The average student saw others about him enjoy life to its fullest extent, pass safely, and stand as well, as far as anybody knew or cared, as the man who labored long and assiduously. The system was not fair to the good stu- dent because it gave him little incent- ive. In general the student body will wel- ,come the change. Now a man will re- ceive his just share of honor for class- room work. There will be something to strive for and the standard of schol- arship will be raised. There will be; Now it becomes our unpleasant duty to compile a post exam soliloquy for the benefit of our friends the lits. A little pluck will keep a man in college-but a couple more will put him out. Good morning. Have you contracted the "con?" -:1:-- Now is the time when our fellow cit- izens begin to pack their bags and de- part as a result of the annual sore eye epidemic. -:I:-- Dr. Kraenzlein isn't the only man who is wondering how he is going to keep his department in operation after the faculty finishes its harvest. Our notion of something to journey miles to see is a senior law banquet in the middle of Lake Erie on a stormy' night. -:1:-. We understand that the jurists are planning to sail their own ship with Cap Sealby at the wheel and "Bo" Metz in his minstrel sailor suit as deck hand.
