Students at Michigan are prone to overlook the opportunities that are presented here in Ann Arbor in the contemplation of those that are offered at a distance, It should not be true in this case. We have the services of one of the greatest trainers in the country, a man who thinks more of the physical welfare of the number than of the winning -perfection of the few. Dr.. Kraenzlein wants every man in the university to feel that all of his knowledge is at the disposal of those who will avail themselves of it. Last year it was no uncommon sight :o see him spending as much Jme with a senior who by 1o possible chance could be -t strong contestant as he devoted to .hose who were potential pointwin- aiers. That is the way Kraenzlein oohs at his duties. As he said one rime, "I am not here primarily to turn gut a winning track team but rather :o do my best to aid the general phys- ical condition of the student body. If I can do that I will be playing my ?art." Desk Caleni Diaries, 1e Books of all Files, Typew Best Office lstant ............Frank Pennel etic Editor...... , . Karl Matthewa stant ............G. C. In another column of this paper ap-T pears a call from Dr. Kraenzleln for candidates for the. sophomore and freshman track teams. Attention is called to the fact that it is the intention to arrange meets with outside schools in addition to the annual clash between the two underclasses. It is regret- rtable that any such step, is necessary to secure sufficient material. Experi- ence has taught that it is from the competition for places on'these two teams that men are discovered who are able to make their mark in the athletic world and who -but for this opportuni- ty of discovering their own capabilities would be unknown. Michigan has alwaye had success on the track. True we have not always come home with the first honors but the men who have taken part in the preliminary training or in the active competition have been benefitted ly hour yesterday morning. At the present .time the members of the class seem to be about evenly divided between Detroit, Toledo and Saginaw. A member of the ban- quet committee has been visiting the various cities for the purpose of de- termining their facilities and will make a report of his investigations when the committee meets some time this week. * ~ n -uiU tUL. i Ine IEnlglishI Sty ie i COR.
