In our feeble way, we would rec- ommend to the meditation of American artists the sentiments expressed by Madame Pasquali regarding the merit of the productions of American song writers. It makes us more than a little optimistic to know at least one Amer- ican singer of first rank who does not apologize for the presence of Amer- ican songs on her program. We arcs personally too proud of our small achievements in the field of music to criticise Madame Pasquali's program as a combination of the "common" with she lofty. We do not, indeed,- pretend to give to our native productions equal rank with a Mozart aria. But we con- tend most.heartily that our native songs have a legitimate place in a Choral Union song recital.
