There will be a meeting of the edi- i'orial staff this afternoon at 1 o'clock, 4)ur N-ewe- inter Sport. For several years it" has been the reeling that tbere was a need for some inter sport to fill in the time when athletics are at a low ebb. The Hu- -on Hockey club, a student organiza- ion, took up the work of introduction 'ast year and the interest that was aroused and the material that was srought forth showed 'that Michigan :would have no cause for taking a back peat if hockey were introduced, here ts a varsity sport. It seemed better to the, board in ontrol that the game get a more thor- -ugh trial before. any steps were tak- en to make it a varsity activity.. To that end it will be tried this winter as a department sport. There will be teams representing each department and a series will be played.. There is no doubt that Michigan needs something of the l4nd and con- sidering the location, -near the north where the game reaches its highest de- velopment, there should be a large field of high class players to pick from. On the interest that is shown this winter depends the future of hock- ey at MichiganL. Basketball did not prove of sufficient interest to keep it on the varsity' list but hockey is in many respects more spectacular than the former sport. There is no game that is as fast or that is subject to more exciting situ- ations than this northern game. It calls, for the best ot condition and for quick- ness of action and of decision. It is all in the open and it can be kept free from unnecessary roughness far better than many other sports. By all means 'et us give hockey a fair and impartial trial and this can be done best by get- ting behipd the movement and boost- ing. town Za~k Put tihe andante pedal on your cre- lulity and read the following from the Detroit Journal: TERRE HAUTE, IND., Dec. 5.-A tornado .-made Rankin school its prey and passed on after tearing page 17, which contaiiried the day's problems in trigonometry, from the books of 17 pupils.- We don't know how those actors at the Majestic expected to surprise uts with that roller towel when we've een gazing upon worse every day of this, and past seasons, in the univer- sity wash rooms.
