Picard, was chos- en after a conference with Coach Field- ing H. Yost of the Michigan team. The fact that more Michigan men were not placed on the honorary eleven comes as a surprise to many followers of the team, but the reasons advanced for not placing more Wolverine players seem to justify the critics in select- ing other~ players for the positions al- lotted them. In choosing Conklin and Wells for the positions of left end and right half- back iespectively, the work of these two players not only during this sea- son but during their whole gridiron career was taken into consideration. Conklin and Wells have both shown experience and judgment which come only after several years of playing, and coupled with their recognized ability; these facts warrant their choice. Craig, who receives honorable men- tion as a halfback, was not given a reg- ular position because of his inexperi- ence. That Craig is a great -open field runner is not forgotten but it is con- sideredl that he has not had enough seasoning to give him a place on an All-Western eleven, Then, too, the fact that Craig is not as proficient in hitting the line as the halfback chosen had much to do with his being left off the regular lineup. In spite of the fact that "bottles" Thomson was given only honorable mention, lie is still regarded as one, of the greatest fullbacks in the coun- try.* The Michigan captain-elect play- ed brilliantly this season and were it not for the fact that he did not play his game in the Cornell and Nebraska contests,'he would certainly have been given the fullback position. At Cor- nell Thomson was injured and his playing was not up to his. usual stand- ard while the difficulties. under which he played' the Nebraska game are suf- ficient to excuse his showing i;n that contest.
