The proposition toI abolish all honor and honorary soci- [on- eties is startling. Just what the rea- sons for such a move would be or what argument would be offered in :upport of it we do not now see. In so far as. the resolution for pub-. licity as to the affairs of campus or- ganizations applies to The Michigan Daily we are heartily in favor of it if ~- the students are genuinely and serious- ly interested in our accounts and meth- Folz ods of operationn. We have no secrets. nell If the details of how we get the mon- ews ey from our advertisers and how we dge expend the surplus left after we pay >ore the printer are .of interest to our pa- Gee trons we would indeed be happy to give rlor them. We have some objections to the modus operandi suggested. The Daily ritt has not attained to a state of plutocra- yers 'cy where every additional expense is not a serious undertaking. To require the publication of a leaflet with its yan consequent labor and expense is a bur- iiett den we do not care to undertake light- pler ly. Neither can the Daily always hd itself out as ready to publish the de- tailed accounts of all other organiza- :nan tions. We have a small paper that ex- Buty pands only with. much difficulty and greatly added expense due to the facil' iter ities at our disposal. We are ready clin to publish such facts in so far as we ser have space for them and as they may ney be of interest to our readers. Further the accounts relative to our ard own affairs are not within our own son control being in the hands of the son Board in Control of Student Publica- tith tions. It is this body which -must act nds in such a matter. II NOW WA Michigan for It is a thing of beauty- a splendid C 'r r i err Fte.ttrzxam Por Fd James D'Ev4 Leonard, M. Rie um J. V. Swee SS STAFF. . The Editors of the Directory having accused us of being one of the causes for their failure to publish the directo- ry earlier, by reason of not furnishing a list of our staff, we have taken some pains to endeavor to ascertain our guilt in this platter. Building, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1, 1911. Night Editor--William Daglerty . Suggested Reforms., We give publicity in our news col-I umns to a communication that is wor- thy of some thought. While some of the propositions upon which our com- mpnicant seeks a popular vote do not seem to us to be live issues, the idea of settling campus problems by a direct popular vote, conducted by the Student Council, has many arguments in its favor. It seems to place before the student body a proposition somewhat similar to the initiative in the larger field of government. As this initiative is agitating national and state political circles the idea seems not uvworthy of consideration in the possibility of its' application to campus affairs. As to the specific propositions to which our communicant chooses to ap- ply his ideas the return of Michigan to the conference at this time, under pres- ent circumstances, not only seems to] request for a list of our staff. All this is in addition to the obvious fact that the staff of The Daily is published rather regularly on the editorial page. toWn Calk Doesn't a Sunday set down into the middle of the week by proclamation feel queer?
