NOTICE TO THE MEMBERS OF THE
MICHIGAN UNION
Public nc tiec is hereby given that a special
meeting of the members of the Michigan Union
will be h:d at 7:30 P. M. on Tuesday, Nov-
ember 2f, 1911, at Waterman Gymnasium for
the purpose of considering amendments to
Articles V and VII of the Articles of Asso-
ciation of the Michigan Union and for the
further purpose of considering the following
amendi nents to the Constitutioh of said cor-
,oration:
AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION
Article III is to be amended toi read as fol-
'ows:.
"Section LI All men who are students in
ac ta residence at the University of Mich-
igan, Alumni, Regents, members of the sev-
eral faculties and officers of the University
of Michigan may become members of the
association upon the payment of the annual
club dues.
- "Section II. (a) Any person eligible to mem-
bership as provided in the preceding section
may become life member on payment of
fifty dollars ( )
(b) Any person eligible to membership
as provided in th'e preceding section may be
come a life member on payment of fifty dollars
($50) payable in the following .manner: ten
dollars ($o) to be paid> at the time of apoli-
cation for membership and forty dollars ($40)
lla)yable in four equal annual installments, said
installments to become due and payable on one
two, three and four years from the date of
such .application. Such applicants for mem-
bersaip shall be entitled to all privileges and
oubject to all the obligations of full Afeber-
tipefrom the date of first payment, provided.
hpwever, in case such applicant shall fail to
make payment of any one of said four annual
payments within one year of the date such
installment shall become due -and payable
he shgl forfeit all rights to become a life
member by thereafter making payment of that
or any remaining intallment, and any install-
ments which may theretofore have been paid
hy such applicant shall be considcred and
taken as regular annual dues.
(c) Any peson not eligible to membership
under the preceding provisions may become
a life member of the association on the pay-
ment of one hundred dollars ($oo), provided
such candidate for life fnembership has secured
the approval of two-thirds of the Board of
Directors.
"Section III. The Union may at any meet-
ing, by a two-thirds vote of the members pres-
ent, elect to honorary membership any person
who may have rendered distinguished service
to the University of Michigan, provided such
candidate for honorary membership has re-
ceived the approval of the Board of Directors.
Article IV is to be amended to read as
follows:
"Members of all of the above classes, except
as hereinafter rovided, shall have the wino-
privildges. All members except those admitted
to membership uender. Section III, of Article
III, of this constitution shall be entitled t<
vote at the meetings of the Union and at the
annual election of officers, provided, however
that at the annual election of officers of those
menmhers possessing the qluaifications specified
in Section I, of Article ill, only those 'wh
have signed their names on the membershil
roll in the club-house before nine A. M. o
the second Saturday in April shall be entitled
to vote."
Section VII of Article V is to be amended
to read as follows:
"(a) The government of the Union shall be
vested in the Board of .Directors, composed o'
the aforesaid nine officers, three others'elected
aninuallyfromtthe University Facultes, and
hve alumni of the University who are members
of the Union, the same to be elected by the
Advisory Council of the Alumni Association
of the University. This Board shall constitute
the Board of Directors for the corporation. I
shall have legal title to the property of the
Union and shall be especially vested with
power to receive donations to the Union."
"(b) Upon the completion of the Michigar
Union club-house project as outlined in th<
resolution of the Michigan Alumni Association
passed at its meeting of June 28th, 1911, th<
title to such club-house, buildings and ground
shall be transferred to, and- thereafter remaii
in the Board of Regents of the University
the Michigan Union club-house project shall
for this purpose, be considered as completed a-
such time as such club-house shall be ready for
use and ocupanc." %r'
"(c) Upon the completion of the Michigan
Union club-house project as set forth in (b) of
this section, the management and control of the
club-house, buildings and grounds shall be vest
ed in the Board of Governors composed of the
Financial Secretary of the Union, who shall be
th6 Chairman of the Board, the President of
the Union, one member of the Board of Reg
ents of the University, to be chosen by the
Regents, and four members of the Union to be
chosen froi the life, faculty and alumni mem-
bers, provided that at least three of the said
four shall be alumni of the University."
Section. VIII, Article V is to be amended
by striking out the words "a majority."
Section IV, Article VIII is to be amended
to read as follows: -
"Teh percent of the members possessing
the qualifications for membership as specified
in Section 1, of Article 111, shall constitute
a quorum at any meeting of the Union, annua-
or special."i
Article IX to be amended to read as fol-
lows:
"Aniendments 'to this constitution, not in vio-
lation of the Articles of Association, nay be
adopted at any meeting of the Union, annua
or special, by a two-thirds vote of the members
present, provided twenty per cent of those
members possessing the qualifications for mem-
bership specified in Section I, of Article III.
