Some of the leaders in the attack on the Majestic are known to the Coun- cilmen. The names of others can be learned. These men should be sum- moned before the Council and appro- priate :action taken. Every serious thinking student will support the Coun- cil in a proper exercise of its author- ity. 1hive We Settled With the Band? The band is safely on its way to Cornell but someway or other we are not minded to draw a sigh of relief and let the matter drop. The job was done, but to our notion it was not well done, and the band cannot be put aside for the year. The student body contrib- uted little over three hundred dollars, not enough to send the band to CorVell. In consequence the band was forced to utilize for its eastern trip the $100.00 appropriated by the Athletic associa- tion. The Athletic Association gave this money to the band to be used as it saw flit. The band must have music, uniforms and other equipment must be kept up, and all the inevitable inci- dental expenses must be met. Now the band's treasury is again empty. Next spring we will want band con- certs on the campus. We will want the band at the big baseball games. On Thursday evening a comparative- ly small body of underclassmen as- 7embled in front of the Majestic, re- fused to pay the slightest attention to the Student Councilmen who sought to. address them, defied their authority, and committed violence destroying property. This creates a situation de- manding action by the Council. What the issue may be between the underclassmen and the manager of the Majestic theater has no connection with the question which has tow aris- en between this body of underclassmen and the Council. The Councilmen sought to stop threatened violence, not to protect any theater or individual but to guard the reputation of the univer- sity, which is inevitably besmirched by rioting resulting in the destruction u: property. They did not command sufficient repcct to obtain a hearing. If student government is to mean any- thing at all, if the Council is to have any reason for existence, it must have authority and it must be supported. To P. If we hear of any dividends being declared by the printeries,we who fre- quent the jurist mill will attribue said prosperity to the activity of those fresh laws who aspire to class leader- ship. Even the activity of the janito.r can't keep the campaign cards from giving to the place the appearance of an autumn road after a snow storm. We can't say what we think about a man who would sooner have two bits worth of free show than a spotless rep- utation for the university, and still get the paper into the postoffice. What has become of the old fashion- ed students who treated the campus cop as a friend when they were for- tunate enough to have one who would do as much for them? Without seeming to wish our heroes any bad luck we allow the observation to escape us that we could manage our grief if some Ithacan should deprive Honk Conklin of his newly found lip fringe We have a vague suspicion that our' friends the Ithacans have a remarka- bly hectic day ahead of them.
