Press Building; Quarry's Pharm- acy, State and North Uni- versity._ THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1911. 1ight Editor-Loren Robinson. All Out. Tonight a Michigan eleven will leave Ann Arbor to invade the east. Since last Saturday the men have been work- ing day and night to round into shape for Cornell. Harder and more unceas ing working has seldom been the lot of a Michigan squad, crippled as this one is. The. men may be tired, tired enough to fall asleep l9 their tracks but within them there is a great hope. They are going to beat Cornell. But they cannot do it alone. They are going to play on a gridiron where the stands are not filled to overflowing with loyal Wol- verines, where the maize and blue is an exception and not a rule and where the only "locomotive" is hitched to an excursion train. Michigan will send a delegation but this is comparatively small. Still, the great body of rooters can do its share. When that team hall, Michigan wants every man-jack of you to rally around the band. Do not wait for your neighbor. Make it a point to get there yourself and the next man can do likewise. It is a duty and an obligation which you owe to the uni- versity and the team. Don't forget. Get out and send that team away in the best of spirits. town ah Our own concentrated notion of no place to sleep is the porch sheltering the entrance to the magnificent edi- fice of our Athletic Assassination. And yet there aresome who look back with longing to the old fashioned days when the expenditure of two bits gave one the right to parade a placard with the legend, "I've sent the band to Pennsy!" Quite So. Dear Ed:-Why not have raised money for the band by putting on a little side-show with this year's most perfect freshman as headliner? H. B. C. If we had fifteen unoccupied pages we could print a few of the communi- cations we have been receiving aent the conscienceless conduct our athletic authorities in the disposition of paste- boards admitting to Ferry Field on the Saturday next but one; as it is we can't even read all of them. Stir the Tar, Hiram. Too bad "The Prince of Tonight" won't be here to meet "The Chorus La- dy." The absolute limit of utter absurdity -an unprotected inter-class game. Charlie Baird, onetime boss of our athletic plant, paused in our town yes- terday to smoke a cigar with the pres- ent powers ere he journeyed eastward. MUSIC AND DRAMA Violin Sonata Recital. Mrs. George B. Rhead and Samuel Lockwood presented the first of a se- ries of violin-sonata recitals in the High School auditorium on yesterday after- noon. The afternoon was deeply en- joyable to the devotees who attended, the new plan of a varied program be- ing eminently successful. Bach, Beethoven and Sjoegren were the composers chosen for yesterday's recital. The Bach sonata was given a perfect interpretation yesterday-a rarely finished bit of the exquisite art of ensemble. Mr. Lockwood's appre- ciation of the Bach phrase is evident i every nuance of tone; and the fluent, blendful, beautifully intoned quality of Mrs. Rhead's playing is peculiarly adapted to such a work. Of Beethoven, the sixth sonata was given; it is a work pure in outline, classic in its restraint and lucidity. The unfamiliar number has something of breadth, but many passages which ring untrue. For one at least of the audience, the Bach so- nata remained the summit of a delight- ful afternoon.
