There may be some among us who are not red blooded enough to yell themselves hoarse for the var- sity." But we know of no real Michi- gan girl who would put up with such company at a football game. We say its on behalf of the girls that no root- er need feel obliged 'to control his effervescent enthusiasm for the Wol- verines out of "deference to the lady." We are all for Michigan. The' objection 'to having a portion of the students in the south stand is not to let the girls alone-or stay at home-but is the supplying of cheer- leaders for the south stand exclusive- ly. The game could be made more spectacular by having rival choruses on opposite sides of the field. There is no reason why the south stand should not cheer as persistently and vigorously as the north stand. If our correspondent had heard the former cheer between halves last Saturday, he could scarcely regard "fussing" as incompatible with good cheering. What we need is a few more cheerleaders,- who lead. As a result of the recent tryouts, we seem to have found two leaders who have a knack of getting 85 per cent. of the crowd. Let us have three car four more. And let its all yell. It is with regret that we 'announce the resignation of our Athletic Editor, Frank E. Shaw. Press~ of other du- ties compels Mr. Shaw to give up his work upon the athletic staff of the pa- per. For over two years he has serv- ed The Daily faithfully, giving with- out stint of his time and energy, and that circumstances should make it necessary for him to give up his chos- en work after having risen to a po- sition of trust and responsibility is indeed unfortunate. We wish to take this opportunity of expressing our ap- preciation of the services he has ren- dered. We are glad that he will be able to continue to serve the paper in an editorial capacity so that we will not lose his ability and experience. We wish to take this occasion to voice a conviction that too few, men are trying to carry on too many of the public activities of the university. Men of energy and ability are called upon to serve in many fields, are overwork- ed and physical and mental break- downs. result.. There are hundreds of men of ability in 'the university who are not aiding in carrying on the cam- pus activities that do much to mnake university life. These men should be called upon more freely and more fre- quently, and when new activities are to be undertaken, new workers should take up the new burdens instead of increasi g the load of Athose already overworked. A larger proportion of the student body should have the op- portunity of securing the benefits of the training and associations which make university activities well worth while. Those who have energy should of- fer it. Those who are directing the activities should seek new workers. Sopli Medics Elect Representatives.
