Student bikes
across America
TO THE DAILY:
I bring to your attention an
exceptional undertaking by Engi-
neering sophomore Xiaoyu Shi,18,
from Corvallis, Ore. He is biking

across America from Astoria, Ore.
to Yorktown, Va. to raise funds
for The Arc of the United States,
an organization that supports
people with mental disabilities.
Xiaoyu was inspired by "Flowers
for Algernon" and decided that his
undertaking must push for this
worthy cause.
As of June 2, he has crossed into

Idaho and is making his way to
Montana. Despite the lack of a con-
sistent internet connection, Xiaoyu
and his friends have set up a blog
- updated as regularly as possible
with amazing stories and photos
from his journey (hrtp://wearestu-
dents.net/xiaoyu). He also has a
donation page through which The
Arc accepts donations for the char-

itable cause on Xiaoyu's behalf: Xiaoyu has incredible support
http://firstgiving.com/xiaoyu. from his family and friends. (His
I am sure Michigan Daily friends have set up a Facebook
readers will be amazed by this group of 153 members devoted
exceptional citizen student after to his journey.) We should all do
visiting his blog. I hope exposing everything in our power to bolster
him to the University community support for this noble cause.
will aid his fundraising campaign
for the cause of supporting people Shashir Reddy
