8 - The Michigan Daily - Monday, July 31, 2006 STADIUM Continued from Page 1 "I don't agree with the marching band sitting with the students because as far as I understand it, one, we'll be taking some of their front row seating, and two, we won't even be facing the students anymore so they won't be able to hear us - which is absolutely ridic- ulous," said marching band trumpeter Brian Peck in an e-mail. But Peck's fellow marching band trumpeter, Aram Sarkisian, said he is looking forward to sitting with the other students. "I'm delighted to see the band move to the other side of the stadium," Sarkisian said in an e-mail. "Histori- cally, the band always sat on the stu- dent section side of the stadium, and I'm glad to see us return to where I think we ought to be. It provides us with an opportunity to be more unit- ed with the student body, and makes that corner of the stadium even more treacherous for our opponents." Sarkisian said he is concerned that the 2010 renovation project does not address the young alumni and other fans who don't have thousands of dol- lars to pay for luxury box seating. He does not see the luxury boxes as a "pressing necessity," but he said he understands the need for renovations. "I think Michigan Stadium needs to be brought into the modern era," Sarkisian said. "There's only so much charm and ambience in being jammed into a 10-inch space in November when everyone is wearing their parkas." Peck said he thinks the general con- sensus of the band is that the luxury boxes are unnecessary, but he also sees a positive side. "The only positive aspect of the luxury boxes for me is that the sta- dium should hopefully be louder and make us (the band) louder, as well as the students," Peck said. q I TREVOR CAMPBELL/Daily Anti-Flag bassist Andy Flag leaps into the air during the band's performance on the Detroit stop of the annual Vans Warped Tour on Saturday.
