Three robbed near West
Qua one assaulted .

A group of five thieves steal two
backpacks, assualt one victim early
Friday morning near West Quad
By Kelly Fraser
DailyNews Editor
A group of five unidentified men robbed three males
who were walking by West Quadrangle Residence Hall
early Friday morning.
The victims reported that the men jumped out of
bushes near the dorm at approximately 3:10 a.m. and
demanded they give them "everything they got."
One victim fled the scene unharmed, while a second
escaped after dropping his backpack.
The suspects physically assaulted the third victim
before taking his backpack, the University's Department
of Public Safety reported.
The injured victim refused medical treatment at the scene.
The victims described the suspects as black males in
their early to mid-20's, around 6'0" tall and weighing

between 220 and 250 pounds.
The victims told DPS that the suspects were all
dressed in dark-colored shirts.
Two were wearing "shiny" shorts, and the other three
wore dark-colored jeans.
DPS is currently investigating the robbery and has
not yet determined any suspects, DPS spokeswoman
Diane Brown said.
The victims are not University students, Brown said.
The suspects were last seen heading toward the Diag
on foot.
DPS later recovered the backpacks, which were left
on the ground near University President Mary Sue Cole-
man's residence on South University Avenue.
The department is still investigating whether items
are damaged or missing.
A University-wide crime alert was issued Friday
morning asking anyone with information about the
crime to contact DPS.
The crime alert was the first issued since March.
If the suspects are caught, they could face a 15-year
felony charge for unarmed robbery with an assault.

ART FAIR
Continued from Page 2
of The Center for Creative Studies
in Detroit.
Six regular committee members
and a panel of peer jurors will also
determine the winner.
A detailed schedule of events can
be found at www.artfair.org.
The fair will run from 10 a.m. to
9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday
and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Many local businesses will adopt
similar hours to accommodate the
visitors.
Historically, Art Fair attendants
supplement Ann Arbor's population
by a steady half-million people.
Brown said attendance at the fair
has reached 700,000 people in peak
years.
As many students and residents of
Ann Arbor already know, parking
in Ann Arbor is enough of a hassle
without the extra thousands of vehi-
cles frantically barreling down one-
way streets.
To ease the experience, Brown
suggests parking at Pioneer High
School or Briarwood Mall, where
free shuttle buses will be available
to transport attendants to the heart
of the fair.
Brown advises those unfamiliar
with the area to park at Briarwood
Mall due to construction at Pioneer
High School.
Additional parking spaces will be
available on Huron Parkway with
the pay-and-ride M-Art Line buses,
which will take patrons directly to
the fair.
Various parking structures will
also be available throughout the city.
