Brother Ali took a breather aftr his show at The Blind Pig on Sun-
day night to sit down with The Michigan Daily to discuss life oo the
road. Brother Ali has made a oame for himself in the underground hip
hop scene, hot with the release of his oew sibum Shadows on the Sun,
he hopes his hearfelt rhythscan reach Iarer audiences.
The Michigan Daily: How long have you been doing this?
Bmother Ali: I have been involved with hip hop since '84, mapping
since '87 or '88. I started recording in '90 and '91 but Shadows on the
Sun was my fist recording.
T MD: You are on the road all the time. How does that
BA: Personally, it doesn't bother me that much. It is kind of hard.
Especially 'cause we dodi cause we are so broke. We don't have a bus;
we go in a van. We share hotel rooms, sometimes there are a few of us
in a room and we sleep on the floor. Every single day you spend like

tufeel something, besides bore. Moat music nowadays eitherjust hypn-
tizes you and makes you stop thinking or it bores you. That's what I
get from a lot of the new music. So, I try to make music that is going
to bring something out of you, make you think about something, and
make you feel a certain thing. So, I tryto make it ashonest as I can.
