Syracuse close to deal with Ohio State SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Syra- cuse has reached a tentative agree- ment to play a two-game football series with Ohio State. The Orangemen would travel to Columbus in 2007. The Buckeyes would visit the Carrier Dome in 2010. "It's got to be finalized yet, but it's something we're pretty excited about," said Syracuse associate ath- letic director Rob Edson. Syracuse and Ohio State played a two-game series in 1988 and 1992. The Buckeyes won both games. The Orangemen defeated Ohio State in the 1991 Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa. Edson said the Orangemen want to play more teams from the Big Ten now that the Big East has switched its television network affiliation from CBS to ABC. The Big Ten also is aligned.with ABC. Matchups with power conferences are more lucrative draws for a network, Edson said. Edson said Syracuse also has recently talked with Penn State about resuming a football rivalry that ended badly after the 1990 season. CONNECTING Continued from Page 14 our current players," Amaker said. "That's an invaluable experience for young kids. It's important that our kids see those things first hand. If we could have that happen, more than anything else, that's the biggest thing we could have for our pro- gram." When taking over as Seton Hall's head coach, Amaker found a similar response from old Pirates, and they stayed in touch. Amaker was involved in a very well received celebration of Seton Hall basketball with a representative from every era from the 1940s to the present. Amaker has also taken the time this summer to get to meet the Detroit area's high school basketball coaches. "We've reached out and coaches have reached out to us," Amaker said. "There's a lot of support within our state. We're just trying to let everyone know we're here, we're new. We want to welcome them into our community here to come to games, to practices." UNCHALLENGED: According to ACCToday.com, the ACC/Big Ten Challenge will not include Michigan this season. The matchups are sup- posed to be officially announced next week. In the Challenge's first year, Michigan beat Georgia Tech 80-77. The Wolverines lost last year at home 71-60 to Wake Forest. BIG MEN: Both Josh Moore and Chris Young are headed to Hawaii for Pete Newell's renowned Big Man Camp. The two centers had started think- ing about attending the camp before Amaker's arrival. "Chris and his family already had him signed up. I think Josh and his previous coaching staff had talked to him about him going out there," Amaker said.
