developer Yu Suzuki ("Virtua

the closest a game has ever been to
real life. You control Ryo and explore
Japan and China with him. All the
scenery is accurate, everyone you
meet is doing something, there are
weather changes, and even smaller
things like the option to play old

accessible and detailed. If you see a
house or building you can explore it.

Dreamcast's underwhelming popu-
larity in Japan this game is getting
incredible reviews.
"Phantasy Star Online" by Sega is
going to be the premier Online RPG
for the Dreamcast and it has a lot of
awesome things going for it.
First, it is based on the wildly pop-
ular "Phantasy Star" world that was
created in the early Sega Genesis
days. Second it will have cutting
edge graphics and incredibly intu-
itive control. Last, it is the first game
or software ever to have full lan-
guage translation on the fly that
means you can talk (or type) to any-
one in the world and what you say
will be automatically translated to
whatever language the other players
are using. During Sega's huge demo
of the game it was playing on four
screens each with a different lan-
guage and everyone was cooperating
together. Very Cool.

In its entirety, E3 2000 was simply
a gaming tour de force with thou-
sands of titles, many of which are
sure to be of top quality. And the
games that were shown should be
more than enough to hold even the
most diligent gamer until E3 2001,

Trucker." In "Jet Grind Radio" you
play a roller-blading punk who needs
to evade cops as you blade around
the city trying to graffiti everything
with a variety of spray paints. You
can even design your own tags and
implement them into the game.
Expect a cult hit that may even cause
a ruckus in congress because it pro-
motes such activity.
Regardless of the gigantic movie
screen at the front of their booth,
Sony's exhibit really wasn't anything
special.
The way Sony's booth was laid out
made it appear as if they were focus-

ing on the PS2's DVD capabilities
rather than the games. And the games
that they did show were mostly
glitchy and unfun. The games also
had long load times and because of
problems with anti-aliasing (a pro-
gramming technique used to take the
edginess out of the visuals) the PS2
didn't look as superior to the
Dreamcast as it should.
There were some exceptions like
"Metal Gear Solid 2," EA games and
Capcom's "Onimusha: Warlords,"
but that was about it, and neither
"Taken Tag" nor "Ridge Racer V"
was drawing crowds. Since most
games were not playable, here are
three that were particularly awe-
inspiring:
"Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of
Liberation" by Konatni, shown on
the hour to crowds that got bigger
and bigger as the show progressed.
Again the player takes control of

Oh scabl, the controls are super
reaisticto,.soI's really cass to go
off track and insanely difficult to
get back on the road. The theory
behind this is probably to make you
stay on the road. It will probablW
just make you put the controller
down.
So, if you want a really good dri-
ving game, get Crazy Taxi; if you
want a good racing game, get Sega
Rally; if you want a good track
game, get Flag to Flag; if you want
either a headache or a cure for your
insane fetishistic European driving
sim craving, get F-I World Gra

don't worry; Sega GT should be out
sometime in the near future.
