Meanwhile, an ad hoc committee of dcans and
University administrators will run the Media
Union while the University hunts for a permanent
replacement.
Paul Courant, assistant to the Provost, said
that following O'Keefe's departure, the daily
operations of the Media Union will continue to
run smoothly.
"From a student's perspective, all of the regular
*ivities that make (the Media Union) so popular
for students will remain the same,' Courant said.
"As far as the admninistrative aspect goes, it will just
he husiness as usual."
Both Courant and O'Keefe stressed that te huild-
ing hours will not change, students will he ahle to uti-
lize the huilding's lihratries and other facilities 24
hours a day.
Recently, the Media Union has worked to create a




set of Weh-hased tools for University faculty, which
would allow professors to set up interactive
Wehpages for their classes, complete with lecture
notes and video clips.
'Soon these network-hated services will he avail-
ahle that reach out so the faculty desktop and help
them so their work hetter and meet the student needs
more effectively, 'OKeefe said.
Heading the various suh-departments of the
Media Union following O'Keefe's departure are
Deputy Director Joseph Hardin, Associate Director
of Advanced Technology Charles Severance, and
Assistant Director for Puhlic Affairs Glenda
Radine.
While O'Keefe admits that the timtng for her
departure is not ideal, she said the "the Dean of
the School of speech as Northwestern puts me in
a leadership positton in my home field,"
Additionally, the new joh hrtngs O'Keefe closer
so her husband, who has heen working and at the
University of Illinois since O'Keefe hegan at the
University.
