Baston didn't get his draft news as early as Traylor. In fact, Baston's name might be an answer to a trivia question some day, as he was the last person selected Wednesday. The three-time defending NBA champion Chicago Bulls took Baston with the 58th pick overall. "He would have liked to be drafted higher, but he was honored to be one of the 58 players chosen," said Baston's agent, Henry Thomas. "There were lots of guys with great college careers who didn't have their names called." Baston, a 6-foot-9, 210 pounder, considered a project by many NBA scouts, is expected to play both small forward and power forward. Baston is currently competing in the Bulls' draftee and free agent camp. Baston "needs to work on his ball- handling to have the opportunity to play small forward and needs to get stronger to be able to play power for- ward," Thomas said. "He will be play- ing in pro-am leagues in Chicago this summer." While Traylor and Baston have both been drafted by the NBA, their debuts in the league are clouded in doubt. The NBA and the NBA Players Association are currently without a labor contract, and the league-will lock out the players Wednesday if no agreement is reached. With the last reported set of negotia- tions lasting only 30 minutes, a lockout seems to be inevitable, and the draftees are prepared for it. "It's very likely that there will be a lockout;' Thomas said. "We will be exploring many different options for Maceo in the United States and over- seas." One Michigan frontcourt standout who didn't hear his name called was forward Jerod Ward. Ward, whose breakout senior season looked to be enough to get him drafted, suffered a knee injury for the third time in four years, scaring off potential NBA suit- ors. Ward "is just looking to get healthy," Ellerbe said. "His rehab is going well, and when he gets healthy, he could have a long-term opportunity (to play in the NBA). However, we are just looking to get Jerod healthy right now."
