impressed by the support the tourna-
ment received from the entire commu-
nity.
"First of all, it's a tremendous team
effort on the part of Bo and all of the
volunteers here from the community,"
Carr said. "We're getting closer and
closer to the goal of making this the
center for adrenal cancer research, and
any time you can be a part of some-
thing like that, it's something you
enjoy doing:'
Of course, while the Classic may
have been held for a good cause, the
players also made sure to have fun.
"1 just really enjoy the people up
here," Knight said. "Schembechler has
always been a guy that I've been very
close to, and a guy that I have always
had great admiration and respect for.
I'm really glad that he asked me to
come up and play."
The sunshine and blue skies that
accompanied the players - just a day
after gray skies and rain - also helped
make the day a success.

"We had a lot of fun" Carr said.
"We had a beautiful day. What else
could you ask for?"
Even on a day dominated by fun and
charity, however, it was inevitable that
a golf tournament featuring sports
celebrities would also be a bit compet-
itive,
"You always compete to do the best
you can," Carr said. "But I had a lot of
great guys to play with, and we had a
lot of fun. We just didn't make enough
putts."
As much as his friends enjoyed
themselves, Schembechler said the
tournament won't go on forever. He
hopes it will reach the foundation's
goal of $3.2 million in four years.
"I don't intend on keeping the golf
outing going," Schembechler said.
"There's so many of these golf outings
that go on and on. So, with the guys
that have been loyal to us, I just want
to let them know that when we reach
our goal, we're going to have a great
celebration.
"And I'll be too old," he said, always
in good humor. "So that's our goal -
to get it done in four years."

hockey players in Ann Arbor for the

are scouring for the next legend.
"There's no question we have to fill
that area" Michigan assistant coach
Billy Powers said. "We have to fill it
with one or two people who can help

immediately. The No. I priority is to find
a goaltender:'
But while the hole could be a large
problem in the future, the urgency to fill
the void is not immediate, Powers said.
"We didn't get Marty until March
(before his freshman year)," he said.
"Goaltending's a position you can't rush.
You want to seea kid over the long term."
At Michigan, the goaltender position
has taken on a greater sense of impor.
tance with each advancing year.
Postseason success, including a
national championship in 1996, has
cemented the school as a prime location
for a goalie to make a name for himself
in the national spotlight.
"Knowing the situation, a kid will
stand tall if he wants it bad enough,"
Powers said.
And he'll also wait for Michigan to
make an offer -just like Turco did.
"There were some schools that@
offered him scholarships, and he real-
ized ... he'd be the No. I guy from day
one;" Powers said. "He wanted that role."
Soon the question will be: Does any-
