The amazing thing about Dave Matthews Band Vocalist and guitarist Matthews took the stage concerts is the power to bring disparate entities and immediately launched into "The Best of together. Then, in the oddest hybrid differences between its latest two albums. From Os . , . _ "Dreaming," the band played songs with more obscure lyrics and difficult melodies - "Rhyme & Reason" and "Warehouse" - as well as the dreamy "Satellite" However, the songs from "Crash" tended to be either introspective ballads, like "Crash Into Me," or poppy, upbeat anthems like "Two Step," with its refrain of "Celebrate we will...". It was clear that on this album, the Dave Matthews Band might have become more accessible and radio-friendly, but have lost none of the gift for creating catchy hooks and clever lyrics. Toward the end of the concert, the band played the familiar first notes of "Ants Marching." After repeating the six-note progression for a few min- utes, Matthews let up on the audience and com pleted the song. It looked as though the evening would end on this exuberant note, but after a short delay, the band returned to play "Drive in Drive Out" and a slow, melodic cover version of Bob Dylan's "All r: The quirky and rockin' Dave Matthews Band Along the Watchtower." 1Those who didn't stay for the encores missed an unusual and intriguing ren- dering of this song. But they weren't the only ones who missed out. As one audience member said, "Look at all these empty seats. It makes me sick. Sick!" He may have been on to something. Next time the Dave Matthews Band is in town, get hold of a few of those empty seats for an electrifying concert experience.
