ROBER'S
Continued from page 1
by broken glass during a team bus acci-
dent in Miami in December 1992. The
Wolverines were in Miami to play aholi-
day tournament.
Stevens claims Roberts did not suffi-
ciently supervise the trip and that this
contributed to her injury. She also is al-
leging that Roberts harrassed her into
leaving the Wolverines after her injury
and sought to wrongfully change her
scholarship status.
Roberts and University officials
wanted to place Stevens on a medical
scholarship, which would have given
Stevens the same financial aid, but
would have prevented her from partici-
pating in basketball. It also would have
allowed Roberts to give a scholarship to
another player.
The University said that it did not act
improperly and that it withdrew its re-
quest to change her scholarship status
after Stevens appealed.
However, the University doctor who
examined her and signed a petition to the
Big Ten saying Stevens would never be
capable of playing basketball again had
never met Stevens, according to pub-
lished reports.
Stevens is also charging:

that Roberts and the University
did not give her adequate support for her
to return to action following her acci-
dent;
that Roberts questioned whether
she and teammate Molly Heikkinen were
gay;
E thatRoberts told formerWolverine
Maritza DuBois that a pre-med major
would take toomuch time away frombas-
ketball;
that Roberts harasses players she
dosen't like until the leave the program;
and that Roberts threatens players
with the lossof their scholarships. -
Stevens, Heikkinen and DuBois have
also signed a petition urging Roberts'
dismissal due to these charges.
Roberts, in her sworn disposition,
denies all charges, although she admits
she knew of complaints from "four or
five" players.
None of the parties involvedcould be
reached for comment.
Roberts had a combined record of
13-68 record in her three seasons at
Michigan, compared to a 38-48 mark of
her predecessor Bud VanDeWege dur-
ing his past three years.
In January, Stevens transferred td
Lynn University, a Division II school in
Florida, and is under an athletic scholar-
ship. She is expected to play basketball
next season.
