"uate is abilities. Virginia had one of the
top defensive lines last year, which
caused so much havoc in opponent's
pockets', the Cavaliers led the nation in
interceptions.
The Wolverines are also relying on
an inexperienced coach. Lloyd Carr
hasn't led ateam since he was active in
high school football nearly two de-
cades ago. However, he is entering his
17th season with Michigan and knows
enrough to deflect attention from him-
self.
"This season isn't about Lloyd Carr,"

he said. "It's about our seniors having the
best season of their careers."
If it turns out not to be the best, it will
no doubt be the longest. With the game
scheduled for Aug. 26 at Michigan Sta-
dium, full workouts will begin Tuesday.
"We had opportunities to play these
games before, but we didn't because it
extended the season," Carr said. "But
this year we decided to do it because
we've got two weeks off (later in the
year)."
Carr said he wasn't worried about his
team being tired for its last three games
against Michigan State, Penn State and
Ohio State. "If anything (the Pigskin
Classic) will help us. We've gotthree big
games at the end. We need to be ready."

Lloyd Carr seems confident heading into the Pigskin Classic.

YOUR VOICE IS IMPORTANT...
THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN REGENTS HAVE ASKED MAUREEN HARTFORD, VICE PRESIDENT
FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS TO DRAFT A NEW AND IMPROVED STATEMENT OF STUDENT RIGHTS AND
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THEIR ACTION AT THEIR FALL MEETING. IN ORDER TO MEET THE REGENTS'
CHARGE, DR. HARTFORD HAS ASSEMBLED A WORK GROUP TO GATHER INPUT FROM THE COMMUNITY
AND MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS.
TO ENSURE THAT THE NEW POLICY REPRESENTS THE VALUES AND IDEAS OF THE ENTIRE
ACADEMIC COMMUNITY, THE WORKING GROUP IS SEEKING DIFFERENT AVENUES FOR GATHERING INPUT.
THE COMMUNITY IS INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO PROVIDE INPUT BY WRITING THE WORK GROUP OR
DR. HARTFORD. COMMENTS CAN BE SENT THROUGH REGULAR MAIL, EMAIL, OR AT ANY OF THE
SUGGESTION BOXES LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS. THE WORK GROUP IS PARTICULARLY
INTERESTED IN RESPONSES TO THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS. WHAT VALUES DO YOU BELIEVE ARE
IMPORTANT TO THIS COMMUNITY? WHAT BEHAVIORS SHOULD CONSTITUTE A VIOLATION OF THESE
VALUES? WHAT PROCEDURES SHOULD BE FOLLOWED IN ADMINISTERING THE CODE. ALL RESPONSES
WILL BE CAREFULLY CONSIDERED AND ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Michigan will be back.
The Wolverines aren't expected to
a whole lot this season. Preseason mag'
zines, experts and pollsters have tab
Michigan anywhere from 10th to 23rd n

so everyone thinks.
Carr says the Wolverines "have no e

had control of a college team before. T
quarterback, Scott Dreisbach, has nev
thrown a pass in a game. And prolif

will.
Michigan will be back.
Without the suffocating pressure th

the Wolverines will finally be able
