Matthew Sweet, pop alternative purveyor extaordinare, is touring around in support of his new EP, "Son of
Altered Beast." Ever since his album "Girlfriend" became a hit of some kind a couple of years ago with the help
of a spiffy Japanimated video for the title track, Sweet's been a whacky one to watch. His last full album, "Altered
Beast," was named for a Sega game, for heaven's sake. The man has even expressed the opinion that he is trying
to be as weird as he wants. Well, that's just dandy, my collegiate colleagues. We all need to be told that it's OK to
be weird. Of course, he's weird and good, so maybe he has a little more leeway than everyone else. Well, no
matter, really. The super-cool thing is that he's playing at the Blind Pig on Friday, May 6. Doors open at 9:30pm,
and advance tickets are a mere $12.50. Such a big star in such a small place. Can you imagine such a thing?
