It should be a supergroup in the making, but instead both Crunt the group and "Crunt" the album fall* woefully flat. "Crunt" tarts out with the instrumental "Theme From Crunt," which is noisy, inconsequen- tial fun. And while "Swine," "Black Heart" and "NotChangingMy Mind" are all aggressive, raucous and garagey, by the second half of the album the band is played out. Every song sounds more or less the same and leaves the listener indifferent.0 Without a doubt, the best song on the albumisBjelland's "Unglued," which sounds a bit like a Babes outtake; that her presence on the album is not greater is one of the major failings of "Crunt." This is a less than promising debut - thank goodness the mem- bers of Crunt have well-paying day jobs in good bands. - Heather Phares Drummers of Burundi Drummers of Burundi Real World It is one track: 30 minutes of the Drummers of Burundi doing what they were brought up to do and carry- ing on a centuries-old tradition of incredible skill and dexterity. Other than the relentless pounding of th* drums, the only sound is the occa- sionalcall ofthechiefdrummer: "Oh, children who have sacrificed them- selves to the drum! Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready?" to which the other drummers respond with wild cheers. The drums them- selves are positioned around a larger ceremonial drum and one by one, the Drummers leap forward to strike the master drum as they return to theiB placein the circle. Therhythms blend effortlessly into one another, making for an intense experience that, with- out a chorus or guitar solo in sight, leaves nothing wanting. - Dirk Schulze White Trash zSiO Si, Que? Elektra Thisisthebestbadalbumofrecent memory. Thirteen tracks of cheesy funk-metal that are adelight to hear as long as it is by choice. Good naturedly un-PC themes pervade this bitofplas- tic, the likes of which haven't been heard by large audiences since the late'80s. For instance, the song "Pig" has the lyrics "All I wanna do is -" and then the sound of guitars crunch- ing. And who can beat "Find Me Somebody" when it contains "I want to fuck you twice, I want to tell you once a night." Nobody, that's who. The lyrics are, basically, totally unredeeming socially, which is more or less their draw. Sure, its stupid, but it could be one of your guilty pleasures. You'll prob- ably find it in the $5 bin because some- one out there doesn't have enough vision to listen o the good bad. -Ted Watts Stop in and check out a world of music on our MUZE! it's a computer that will search out the hardest to find music...and our special orders now take only two days in most cases! ...it's In the Hnuse GIFT CERTIFICATES ALWAYS AVAILABLE in any amnunt CHECK 7'he AFG HAN WH IGS OUT G EN T LE ME N OUR WAY LOW f-s PRICED - ~ CD's .
