If Dwayne Ware has his way, he'll
playing football in Michigan again
xt year.
Though Ware played his final sea-
as a Wolverine last year, he hopes
rade in his Maize and Blue uniform
the Silver and Honolulu Blue of the
troit Lions, as he was one of their 10
ent rookie free agent signings.
"I've looked seriously at Detroit
last couple of years," Ware said.
'u get great fan support here (in
chigan), and itkeeps me close tomy
rch in Lansing."
The Lions have aneedin particular
the defensive back position after
ing Sheldon White and Melvin

Jenkins to free agency during the off-
season. Making the team won't be
easy, however, as the Lions drafted
three defensive backsin the 1993draft.
Detroit selected Miami's Ryan
McNeilin the secondround,Virginia's
Greg Jefferies in the sixth round and
Arizona State's Kevin Miniefield in
the eighth round hoping to replace
White and Jenkins. Ware will have to
compete with these three for a spot on
the roster or the five-player develop-
mental squad.
Despite facing fierce competition,
Wareremainsoptimisticofhis chances.
"I have enough confidence and
ability to make it," Ware said. "I just
needtogooutandplay physicalanddo
as well as I can."
