RECORDS Continued from page 9 ing ships, features a sweet sounding calypso solo played by both guitarists. Ifthese guys decide to stay together, "Big Love" will become their trade- mark set closer. This ballad is a testi- mony for all middle-aged men looking forasubstantialrelationship.Theysing, "I need a fifty-foot woman to wrap thesearmsaround/Doyouknowwhere this love can be found?/'Cos I'm a full grown man/ and I'm looking for a big love." Though I'mno full grown man, I'm just looking for a big disc to satisfy all my moods. Little Village is it. -Andrew J Cahn Juliana Hatfield Hey Babe Mammoth This killer collection of teenage girl riot anhems is too good to be true. Despite the slap-happy brilliance of her band, the Blake Babies, Hey Babe is a dazzlingrevelation.Hatfield'sgleefully grungy snap'n' pop tunes are late '60s AM radio-style classic, complete with bitingly sardonicsweet somethings that caress and cut at the same time. "Everybody Loves Me But You" is Wilson-Phillips on aDinosaur Jr. high, acan't-get-it-out-of-your-headmelody shredded to glorious bits by rough and tumble guitars, courtesy of the Lemonheads' Evan Dando. "Quit" is another rock 'n' roll car crash, all sonic (youth)riffsthatrollercoasterfromhere to eternity. Butit's"Nirvana," thatprovidesthe coup de grace on Hey Babe. A grind 'em and smile crush groove careens recklessly around the room, while Hatfield screams, in that sugary-sweet voice, "Here comes the song I love so much/makesme wannago fuck shitup/ I've got Nirvana in my head/ I'm so glad I'm not dead." More fun than a lifetime subscrip- tion toSassy magazine, Hey Babe is pure power pop perfection. -Scott Sterling Body Count Body Count Sire 9.0, and 21 y iv 'ii Body Count bumrushesyourspeak- See RECORDS, Page 12 Juluana namue reacnes for anuuoer glass of irgi prosein power pup.
