SBo supporters flock to defend new AD

on University Affairs, feels that the
women's and minor sports woes
would continue under Schembechler.
"Schembechler needs to give
significant attention to all of the
sports and all of the aspects of the
athletic department," McClamroch
said. "I hope that he will, but in his
own words his primary commitment
is to football. He must give the
athletic directorship the attention it
deserves."
Members of the athletic
department felt McClamroch's
further concerns about athletes
academics were unwarranted and were
based on a lack of knowledge about
the athletic department.
"Bo is very concerned about
graduation rates and kids. His players
getting a degree is Bo's main
objective," said Lund.
Regent Deane Baker (R-Ann
Arbor), who has continually pledged
his support for Schembechler, said
"there is no doubt in my mind that
Coach Schembechler is the best
candidate for the job."
The regents alleviated their
concern of Schembechler holding
both jobs by hiring Weidenbach.
"I'll be taking care of faculty and
personnel decisions to free Bo up for
big decisions and to do his
coaching," said Weidenbach
immediately following last month's
press conference.
