visits to various departments and
schools at the University.
According to Annette Bardouille-
Crema, director of the College Day
program, neither program attempts
to recruit students specifically for
the University. "The high-school
program is not a recruiting project.
The idea is to get secondary schools
and parents involved in preparing
young people for college."
Success rates for the programs
have yet to be tabulated. "Although
the (summer enrichment) program
has been in effect for five years, it
involves eighth and ninth graders.

compile statistics on how it has
affected applications to the Univer-

high school student, and summer
enrichment member, finds her prog-

sophomore and summer enrichment
group leader, said "The program is
great because the speakers don't talk
above the heads of the audience;
they're really down to earth."
There have also been many
speakers for the College-Day prog-
ram such as Julian Earls, an
administrator at NASA's research
center in Cleveland, Richard
Kennedy, University vice president
for government relations, and
Engineering Dean Charles Vest.

"They keep us very busy, but on
weekends, they give us things to
do. We've seen some of the campus
already.
"Tonight, we're going to
Briarwood, and on the weekend, to a
Roller Derby. They're also taking
us to Cedar Point, the Power
Center, and we'll be here for the
Ann Arbor Art Fair. It's a lot of
fun."
According to Rashaun Nichol-
son, also a Detroit student and
summer enrichment program mem-
ber, "The program is great, but a
few things could definitely be
improved. The lights-out at 11:00
is strictly enforced, and there is no
air-conditioning." The 20 other
summer enrichment students in the
