T H U R S D A Y The Jazz Butcher, one of the most innovative guitarists on the Bitish music scene, attacks Alvin's, 5756 Cass on the Wayne State Campus in Detroit. Butcher's sound is somewhere between The Velvet Underground and Robyn Hitchcock while Alvin's is probably the best area bar in which to see a band, with a high stage and lots of dance floor space. Butcher will be joined by another guitarist and a saxophonist....George Bedard and the Kingpins play the Pig tonight. SIN 1 G Two new shows opened at the University Museum of Art this week. Kawase Hasui and His Contemporaries, features wood- block prints from the Shin Hanga (New Print) movement in landscape art, late 19th-20th centuries. These colorful prints illustrate tranquil images of natural beauty. Also opening is Wind Songs: Japanese Prints From the Permanent Collection, which features 25 more traditional wood- block prints. See this one first as it creates an excellant context through which tio understand the Shin Hanga movement. U P C0 M I N Saturday June 27 brings a major music festival to the area: WEMU's Frog Island Jazz and Blues Festival. The boogie woogie of Ann Arbor's own piano-man Mr. B, the hard bop of the George Adams quartet, the joyful calypso sounds of the Trinidad-Tripoli Steel Band, the gutbucket blues of Albert King and more will all be heard under a large tent on the banks of the Huron River. Don't miss this opportunity to catch the Blues Festival craze....Also on the 27th , as part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, a special presentation of the 1921 silent film version of The Three Musleteers will happen at the Michigan Theater.
