The weekend starts on a truly
upbeat note this week with KoKo
Taylor, the self proclaimed
"Queen of the Blues," appearing
tonight and tomorrow night at
Rick's, 911 Church St. It's difficult
to dispute the title as she turns out
one great Alligator album after
another, including the recent live
Lp An Audience with the Queen ,
which captures the grit and
intensity of her live performances.
Experience it for yourself...Then
hop right over to the Blind pig, 208
South First, to hear that great dance
and rock and roll band, Domino.
And if you can't catch them tonight
or just want to see them twice in
one week, don't worry. They play
tomorrow night at the Pig as
well...A Clockwork Orange,
Stanley Kubrick's futuristic
masterpiece plays tonight at the Nat
Sci Building at 7 and
9:30...Talking about the future,
2001: A Space Odyssey
(another Kubrick classic) and
2010: The Year We Make
Contact, show at the Michigan
Theatre at 7:00.
S A T U R D A Y
Solo Alliance, an artistic
compilation presented in separate

works in dance, guitar, art, and
poetry, is presented tonight at the
Kerrytown Concert House, 415
North Fourth, at 8...Crowd-pleaser
Oscar Brand plays at the Ark,
637 1/2 South Main, at 8. This
Canadian is supposed to be a pretty
funny guy, so don't miss him...Pee
Wee Herman is another funny guy
and his movie, Pee Wee's Big
Adventure airs tonight at the Nat
Sci at 7:30 and 9:30...'Round
Midnight plays at the Mich at 7,
9:30 and 12. It's an excellant film
about a dying jazz musician played
by Oscar nominee and first time
actor, Dexter Gordon.

Two hot exhibits open today at
the Jean Paul Slusser Gallery, 2000
Bonisteel Boulevard. The first one
is the Midwest Photgraghy
Invitational IV, an exhibition of
modern black and white photos, and

the other is Ferrous Forgings, "life in the ring." The films shown
an exhibition of forged ironworks, are The Day Manolete was Killed,
I'll bethere...Eyemediae, 214 North Festival of the Bulls, Throw That
Forth, presents A Night at the Bull, and Blood and Sand.

Los Olividados is a film
about a group of children surviving
in the streets of Mexico. This tale
of human cruelty shows tonight at
Eyemediae at 8:00...No one here
has seen Swami Beyondananda
but the name is enough for us the
give this "Yogi from Muskogee" a
shot. This evening filled with 4
"laughter, dance and surprises"
starts at 8 at the Ark.

Even though Andy passed away
a few months ago, his legend lives
on. Proof of this is his classic film,
Andy Warhol's Bad which
plays at the MLB 3 at 7:30 and
9:30. It's about a middle-aged
Queens housewife who makes a
living by running both a facial-hair-
removing business and an
assassination-for-hire organization -
...Local yokels, Iodine Rain -

bring their technopop to Rick's.
Both of these bands are gaining
popularity.
