Page 8 -The Michigan Daily Friday, July 17, 1987 'U' expects no dorm By SHEALA DURANT With classes just eight weeks away, University housing officials are still trying to place an estimated 4,500 first-year students in residence halls, but they do not anticipate the housing difficulties that plagued many students last year. "There is no reason for freshmen to be anxious about whether they'll be placed. All freshmen a r e guaranteed housing in a traditional residence hall," Housing Advisor Sherie Veramay said. Veramay said, however, that "it's too early in the game to tell" whether the University can completely avoid a housing shortage. Last year 11 first-year students spent four days living in the Mary Markley residence hall lounge and others were provided with short- term housing in Baits. THIS YEAR housing officials have reserved more spaces for incoming first-year students b y decreasing the number of spaces they usually offer returning students. The housing office blames the delays on late housing applications and the juggling that occurs when students request certain arrangements 'There is no reason for freshmen to be anxious about whether they'll be placed.
