"A total wellness program is ideal because each employee starts with a health risk appraisal and screenings to identify existing or potential health problems," she says. "For example, we can then warn an executive who works long days, eats poorly and doesn't exercise that he may be on his way to a heart attack." Early screenings can also inden- tify high risks which are common among many employees in one or- ganization so that cost-effective pre- vention programs can be tailored to fit the needs of that group. Worksite programs offered through Catherine McAuley Health Center include Smoke Stoppers, Be Trim!, Personal Stress Management and The Back School. The many screenings available include blood cholesterol, hypertension, glaucoma and sickle cell.
