Indeed, Minneapolis seems to be
receiving an enormous amount of at-
tention due to the fact that it is the
same hometown to The Replacemen-
ts, and of course, Prince. Hipsters
with their ears to the ground can point
to the recent rise of these first two ar-
tists, both of whom ascended from in-
dependent to major label status
within the past year. Is a similar fate
on the ouija board for Soul Asylum?
Most of the band had stayed up until
7:00 a.m. finishing the recording for
their new album on the day I spoke to
Karl Mueller, and was ready for more
at 4:00 p.m. before hitting the road for
a series of. club dates. Mueller adds
that there's been some talk of getting
a piece of commercial success:
"Right now two of the guys from
Twin Tone are in New York talking to
a major label. They've been doing this
on and off. What the idea is going to be
is that a Twin Tone band like us - ifa
major label was ever interested -
would stay on Twin Tone, but it would
have, like, 'Warner' distribution. It
would say 'Twin Tone/Warners.' And
the people here would be reponsible

"We'd still get the distribution," he
adds, "But if we left Twin Tone we'd
have to deal with a huge, massive
congloverative company which would
be more difficult because right now
we don't have a lawyer or a bank ac-
count."
Fans who are eagerly awaiting
this new album (scheduled for release .
November 11th) can currently swipe
up a new cassette compilation or
previously unreleased tracks titled
Time Incinerator. There will also be a
new single released before the album
comes out, due sometime in October.
