BOSTON ROLLS ON
Red Sox burn Jays;
Boyd collects victory

BOSTON (UPI) - Dennis "Oil Can"
Boyd scattered 11 hits in posting his
league-leading ninth complete game'
and Mike Easler drove in two runs last
night to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 4-
1 victory over division-leading Toronto
Blue Jays.
The victorywas the second in a row
for the Red Sox over Toronto and their
14th in their last 16 games.
BOYD, 8-4, struck out four and
walked only one in notching his fourth
straight complete game victory.
The Red Sox broke a 1-1 tie in the
third inning on Easler's first RBI of
the game. With one out, Wade Boggs
singled to left, advanced to second on
Bill Buckner's single and scored on
Easler's single to center.
Boston added two runs in the fifth off
loser Jim Clancy, 2-4, to increase its
advantage to 4-1. Steve Lyons started
the inning by doubling into the left-
field corner and Boggs followed with
another double. Boggs later scored on
Easler's two-out double to center.
Toronto scored in the second to take
a 1-0 lead. Willie Upshaw led off with a
single, moved to third on a single by
George Bell and scored on Len
Matuszek's infield out.
