Yankees 8, Red Sox 3 NEW YORK (AP) - Don Baylor smashed the first inside-the-park homer of his 13 year career and broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning with a two- run single as the New York Yankees defeated Boston 8-3 last night, snapping a f i v e- game winning streak for the Red Sox. Baylor sliced his tie-breaking hit to right in the seventh off reliever Steve Crawford after the Yankees loaded the bases off loser Bob Ojeda. 5-5. CLEVELAND (AP) - Bruce Bochte doubled and homered and Carney Lan- sford rapped three singles to spark the Oakland Athletics to a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians last night. Winner Bill Krueger, 4-1, gave up six hits over the first seven innings before Mike Warren and Bill Caudill finished, with Caudill notching his 12th save. Krueger blanked Cleveland after allowing a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. High School, was the first selection of the regular phase of baseball's free agent amateur draft yesterday by the New York Mets. Selecting second, the Seattle Mariners chose right-handed pitcher Billy Swift from the University of Maine, which was eliminated from the College World Series on Sunday. Other CWS performers taken in the first round were outfielder Odibee Mc- Dowell of Arizona State (Texas) and Bob Caffery of Cal State-Fullerton (Montreal), and pitcher Dennis Livingston (Los Angeles) and shortstop Gary Green (N.Y. Yankees) of Oklahoma State. Thomas Lee Hinzo, a second baseman from Southwestern Junior College in Chula Vista, Calif., was the first choice in the secondary round, taken by the Mets. Secondary draftees are players who have been chosen in other drafts but never signed with a team. Michigan pitcher Gary Wayne, who was taken in the 23rd round last year, is expected to go in the later rounds in this draft.
