Sugar Bowl

Daily photographer Brian D. Masck won second
place for sports photographs in this year's Colum-
bia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle Awar-
ds. The competition, which recognizes outstanding
college journalists, drew 10,498 entries in 60 4
categories. Masck, an LSA senior majoring in -
sociology and economics, captured the winning
images during Michigan's January trip to the Sugar
Bowl in New Orleans. He is now working in
Jacksonville, Florida as an intern for the Florida
Times-Union and the Jacksonville Journal.

Michigan's excellent defensive perfor-
mance despite the last-minute score
which gave Auburn a 9-7 victory over
the Wolverines. The game was a sad
climax to an enjoyable week-long party
in New Orleans which included a per-
formance by Doc Paul's band (right) in
the New Year's Day parade. -
