Middaugh is in his fifth year as the head coach at Michigan. He has led the Wolverines to four Big Ten champion- ships and three appearances in the College World Series. In CWS action Michigan tied for third in 1983, finished fifth in 1980 and seventh in 1981. IN HIS FIRST four years at Michigan Middaugh's teams have averaged almost 43 wins a year. By winning the NCAA mideast regional, this year's, team would attain that average. Before coming to Michigan Middaugh was the head coach at Miami (Ohio). He has achieved 30 wins -for 11 con- secutive seasons, six at Miami and five at Michigan. His lifetime record is 567- 248-1, including 211-75-1 at Michigan. Middaugh, selected by his fellow coaches for the title, received five of 10 first place votes and edged North- western coach Ron Wellman, who gathered four first place votes. Michigan beat Northwestern 8-3 last Sunday for the Big Ten baseball chan- pionship. The Wolverines face Atlantic 10 champion Temple on 'Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Mideast Regional at Central Michigan Univer- sity.
