Tigers foil Yankees, 7-6

DETROIT (AP) - Alan Trammell,
tied the score with a two-out home run
in the ninth inning, his second of the
game, and Larry Herndon bounced a
single to right field to score Lance
Parrish in the bottom of the
10th inning, giving the Detroit
Tigers a 7-6 victory over the
New York Yankees last night.
Trammell, who hita three-run homer
in the third inning, tied the score after
Dale Murray, the third New York pit-
cher, walked pinch hitter John Wocken-
fuss to start the ninth and then got Lou
Whitaker to hit into a double play.
LANCE Parrish led off the Tigers'
10th with a double to right off Murray,

2-3, and continued to third on Don Mat-
tingly's throwing error. Herndon
followed!with his game-winning single.
Doug Bair, 4-3, worked 11-3 innings of
hitless relief to earn the victory.
With the score tied 5-5 in the top of the
eighth, Willie Randolph reached second
base on shortstop Trammell's one-out
throwing error. After a walk to Craig
Nettles, Dave Winfield, who hit two
home runs earlier, doubled-off Detroit
starter Dan Petry to give the Yankees a
6-5 lead.
NEW YORK took a 1-0 lead in the first
inning on Winfield's 24th home run but
the Tigers went in front 3-1 in the third
on a walk to Rick Leach, a single by

Whitaker and Trammell's eighth home
run of the season.
The Yankees rallied for three runs in
the sixth on a double by Andre Rober-
tson, an RBI single by Graig Nettles
and Winfield's second homer of the
game but Detroit's Kirk Gibson opened
the bottom of the inning with his 10th
home run, a 430-foot shot into the upper
right field stands.
Steve Kemp's 11th homer with one
out in the seventh gave the Yankees a 5-
4 lead but the Tigers' Wayne Kren-
chicki belted his first homer of the
season and third of his career in the bot-
tom of the inning to chase New -York
starter Matt Keough and tie the score
again.

Cincinnati tops Padres, 6-5

CINCINNATI (AP) - Eddie Milner and Dave Concepcion
stroked three hits apiece and Dan Driessen singled to drive in
the go-ahead run yesterday night to give the Cincinnati Reds
a 6-5 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Milner scored twice and Concepcion drove in two runs to
hand the Padres their third straight loss.
DRIESSEN SINGLED in the fifth to put the Reds ahead to
stay and give the victory to Frank Pastore, 6-10, who scat-
tered nine hits over six innings. Tom Hume picked up his
seventh save.
The Reds scored in the first on Concepcion's single and in
the second on Dann Bilardello's RBI fielder's choice for a 2-0
lead off loser Eric Show, 11-8. The Padres responded by
scoring three times in the third. Consecutive singles by Juan

Bonilla, Show and Bobby Brown brought in a run, and Garry
Templeton rapped a two-run double for a 3-2 Padre lead.
Cincinnati tied the game in the third. Concepcion singled,
Driessen walked and both runners advanced on Show's wild
pitch. Cesar Cedeno then grounded out, scoring Concepcion.
Bonilla's RBI single put San Diego back ahead 4-3 in the
fourth, but the Reds scored twice in the fifth to take the lead
for good. Milner singled and scored on Gary Redus' game
tying triple and Driessen singled for the lead.
Conception singled home another run in the sixth off
reliever Ed Whitson.

Blue Jays edge Brewers, 5-4

TORONTO (AP) - Willie Upshaw
doubled Barry Bonnell home from
second base in the eighth inning to lift
the struggling Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-
4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers
last night.

Toronto's last 10 games. Bonnell
opened the eighth against reliever Jim

Slaton, 9-5, with a walk and moved to
second when Dave Collins beatout a
bunt. Upshaw then doubled to right-
center that scored Bonnell easily with
Collins being thrown out at the plate.
TORONTO reliever Joey
McLaughlin, 5-2, who came on in the
seventh, was the winner. He worked
two and two-thirds scoreless innings.

Toronto took a 2-0 lead in the first in-
ning on Lloyd Moseby's 15th home run
of the season after Damaso Garcia
opened the inning with a single off Mike
Caldwell. Toronto added a run with two
out in the sixth when Cliff Johnson
doubled and scored on Bonnell's single.
The Brewers came alive in the seven-
th and chased Luis Leal, who was
working on a four-hit shutout. Jim Gan-
tner led off with a single and scored on a
double to right by Ted Simmons which
the Blue Jays argued was foul. Cecil
Cooper singled Simmons home and
scared on Roy Howell's triple to right
that Bonnell missed on the short hop,
the ball rolling to the fence. Rick Man-
ning followed with a grounder to second
that Garcia bobbled momentarily,
allowing Howell to score and give the
Brewers a 4-3 lead.
Pirates 6, Expos 3
MONTREAL (AP) - Tony Pena
belted a three-run homer to cap a four-
run sixth inning as the Pittsburgh
Pirates defeated the Montreal Expos 6-
3 last night.
With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth,
Johnny Ray opened with a double off
Steve Rogers, 14-7, and advanced to
third on a flyout. Dave Parker received

an intentional walk one out late, but
Doug Frobel blooped an RBI double in-
to left field.
Brewer's consider
"sober section"
MILWAUKEE (AP) - A proposal to
set aside a non-drinking section at
Milwaukee County Stadium for
Milwaukee Brewers' baseball games
would have to be endorsed by the team
to be workable, County .Executive
William O'Donnell said Thursday.
"Without their concurrence, it isn't
worth trying," O'Donnell said.
GABE PAUL Jr., the team's vice
president of operations, said earlier
this week that the proposal overem-
phasized problems and underestimated
security work done by sheriff's
deputies.
Wilcox to minors
DETROIT (UPI) - Detroit Tiger
right-handed pitcher Milt Wilcox will be
sent to the team's minor league club for
a 20-day rehabilitation plan, Tiger of-
ficials announced yesterday.
Wilcox, who has a 8-8 record so far
this season and an 3.79 era, has been
plagued by a stiff shoulder.
