the heat

State Street is packed with people
just like it always is during the art fair,
but one woman in the immense crowd
stands out.
All eyes are glued to her floppy
fuschia hat, dirty canvas sneakers,
billowing tent dress and water cooler
big enough to quench a football team's
thirst. The smell of sunscreen lingers
on long after she has left the scene.
YOU SNEER at her lack of fashion
savvy or you saunter from booth to
booth in your designer jeans, halter top,
and fashionable high heels. But by
evening, she's the one who is ready to
