Many faculty members said the key University committee which proposed the cuts ignored the value of the ducation school. Although the Art School and the School of Natural Resources are also slated for budget cuts, those proposed for the Education school are most severe. THE CUTS are part of the Univer- sity's plan to cut $20 million from its budget. The $20 million would be put in- to high priority areas such as faculty salaries, graduate student aid and pur- chasing new equipment. A 40 percent cut in the education school would save nearly $2 million. Prof. Jack Rothman in the School of Social Work said the recent federal government report on the quality of education in the U.S. should be con- sidered before 'carrying out the proposed cuts. "The problems being faced in education recently, indicate that the cuts (to the Education School) willin- terfere with the capability of the University to deal with problems of such magnitude," Rothman said. "So far there has been almost a silen- ce in the University community on the issue," he said.
