far short of the first two films'. Super-
man puts out a chemical plant fire by
freezing a lake and carrying it to the
fireS. Ho hum. The fight between
Superman and Clark seems endless,
and Clark's winning makes no sense,
for Superman seems to be quite
superior. The scenes at the Leaning
Tower of Pisa (don't ask) are almost
laughable, and even James Watt would
be upset at the things Webster does to
the Grand Canyon, where the computer
is located.
Even more grating are the lesser
things that fall far short of the first two
films. The main titles are these white
things that slink across the bottom half
of the screen throwing it out of focus,
while an awful slapstick sequence goes
on.
The things which equal the first two
films in Superman III do not balance
the things which regress. Ilya and
Alexander Salkind and Pierre Spengler
who produced a great film in Super-
man, The Movie and a good film in
SupermanII, produce the unproducable
- a film that had a dedicated Super-
man fan frowning as he left the theater.
And let us not forget screenwriters
David and Leslie Newman and director
Richard Lester. They, toe, should share
in all that glory.
Next year, the same producers will
bring us Supergirl. One can only hope
that they will have learned from their
mistakes.

DETROIT - When Dave Rozema
surrendered a three-run homer to Brian
Downing in the first inning it looked like
he was going to have a-long night. It
turned out the long night belonged to
California as the Detroit Tigers rolled
to a 12-6 victory at Tiger Stadium last
night.
Rozema, 6-0, gave up only seven hits
all night, three in the first and three in
the sixth but all counted as runs. Rod
Carew led off the first with a single,
followed by Rick Burleson's one
bagger, and Downing's home run.
In the bottom of the opening stanza
the Bengals were led by Lou Whitaker's
lead-off home run, his sixth. Enos
Cabell followed with a single, Larry
Herndon a double, Lance Parrish
walked to load the bases. John Wocken-
fuss also walked in a driving run, Chet
Lemon singled, knocking in two more to
put the Tigers in front to stay.
Herndon powered the Tigers with
five hits including a pair of doubles and
a home run. He also scored four times
and drove in three.
