(AP) - San Diego Chargers' running back Chuck Muncie, reportedly headed for further drug treatment, has "a choice" that will required 'some soul searching,' accor- ding to his business adviser. Muncie, the Chargers' leading rusher the past two seasons, left camp Monday after missing a Sunday night curfew and a morning practice. COACH DON Coryell told reporters that Muncie will udnergo "a second phase" of rehabilitation. "The only thing that's important is that he come out completely cured of his problem," said Coryell, declining to "guess how many days Muncie may be gone. Muncie, at a camp-opening press con- ference Aug. 1, admitted undergoing treatment for "a small problem" with cocaine, marijuana and alcohol, but promised never to use drugs again. AT THAT TIME, he said tests had cleared him of dependency on drugs. His adviser, Alan Weiner of New Orleans, said he received a telephone call from Muncie late on Sunday. Muncie's absence from camp in- volves "something they want him to do," Weiner said. "He has a choice. It's something he has to sit down and think about. He has to do some soul searching." IN ANNOUNCING the development, Coryell said, "we've been advised by the people counseling him (Muncie), that he should go through a second phase of rehabilitation and that's wht he's doing." It is "not important" how many days it takes, Coryell said. The Chargers open their National Football League preseason schedule at home against the Chciago Bears next Monday and the regular season Sept.12 at Denver. Muncie tied at NFL record last year with 19 touchdowns rushing and was the second leading rusher in the NFL's American Conference ASKED IF there was any indication that Muncie was having problems during the first week of camp, Coryell snapped, 'Absolutely not. He's been perfect in practice. He's never been late. He's been tremendous, and he's a man that everyone on this coaching staff and team loves." Refusing further comment, he said the matter will remain confidential between the club's team physicians and Muncie. The Chargers annonced Aug. 1 the team had begun mandatory drug tests on players on a random basis. Muncie has declined to discuss the matter publicly, saying he is a witness in a federal drug case in New Orleans and under court orders not to discuss the case with anyone. 4 Arguello signs to fight for fourth world ti tle NEW YORK (AP)- Alexis Arguello saying, "It's hard to say anything will be trying to become the first man in negative about this guy because he does boxing history to win titles in four everything right." weight classifications when he But Pryor later said, "Normally I'm challenges champion Aaron Pryor for like I am now-full of love.
