The Cubs have won seven of their last eight, and the five-game winning streak is their longest since August 1979. After Mulliniks' third home run of the season tied the score 2-2, Boston starter Dennis Eckersley, 11-10, issued one-out walks to Willie Upshaw and Hosken Powell, He was replaced by reliever Bob Stanley, who surrendered consecutive RBI singles to Bonnell and Moseby. TORONTO reliever Ken Schrom, 1-0, posted his fir- st major league victory since 1980, when he earned his only other triumph. Schrom, who was recalled last week from Syracuse of the International League, went twp-thirds of an inning in relief of Luis Leal, who went 72/3 innings and yielded both Boston runs. Rick Miller led off with a single but was thrown out stealing on an at- tempted hit-and-run. Glenn Hoffman followed with a single and one out later Jerry Remy also singled. Dwight Evans then doubled to score Hoffman. Toronto tied the game 1-1 in the fifth. With two out, Moseby singled, Al Woods walked and Alfredo Griffin followed with an RBI single. Brewers 9, Rangers 1 MILWAUKEE (AP) - Mikle Caldwell pitched a six-hitter for his third consecutive victory and Robin Yount drove in four runs with a double, grounder and sacrifice fly, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-1 victory over the Texas Rangers last night. Milwaukee's victory and Boston's 4-2 loss to Toron- to gave the Brewers a 3 -game lead over the second- place Red Sox in the American League East. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on George Wright's sixth home run, snapping a string of 18 shutout innings by Caldwell, 10-10, who struck out three and walked two in pitching his seventh com- plete game of the year. 4 I 4 4
