Perfect pottery is the goal of ceramic artist One of Ann Arbor's most popular bands, The Urbations, plays at the Rick's/Pizza Bob's stage on Church Street during the art fair. By Jill Beiswenger ANN WOOD'S goal is to make a per- fect cup. She was at one time a math and chemistry student, but also studied art and experimented with a variety of mediums, including painting and wood working. Two years ago she took a good look at the dissatisfaction she felt from not having the time or energy to reach perfection in either one of these mediums. She wanted a balan- ce in her life. And most of all she wan- ted a peaceful flow from one moment to the next. At that time Wood was making raku, claywork which attains color modulations 'in the glaze from quick firing at high heat, then plunging the still hot piece into sawdust or dry leaves and then water. She decided to go to Japan in order to benefit from the teachings of a master. % After hitch hiking all over Japan, she spent eight months in a small mountain village under the tutelage of Yoshiko Uichi. Here she learned that the secret of performing at her optimum level is elimination of distractions. She rediscovered the intense pleasure of finding her natural rhythm, while focusing on the doing of one thing as beautifully and as thoughtfully as possible. 315 N MAPLE 169.1300 "1.00 TUESDAY IS DISCONTINUED" A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S SEX 12:30 COMEDY 2:30 WOOY AULN 4:15 ---- MA FARROW 7:00 - OS E 9:30 11 a.m.- At the Graceful Arch on East University, the Downtown Dancers show off differenet types of choreography, from jazz to ballet.
