MICHIGAN GUARD ERIC Turner looks to a team- mate as he prepares to make a pass in non- conference play last season. Turner has been teaming up with this year's Wolverine recruits over th'e summer in the Sandy Sanders Summer Basket- ball League, and the newcomers have been having some difficulty growing used to the 6-3 guard's passing skills. "IT'S A NEW thing for a lot of people to receive good passes," said Turner. "So as time goes on, they'll start looking for those passes and start lear- ning to go to certain areas of the court where they'll learn I can get them the ball." But for the time being, one of the biggest adjust- ments that the Wolverine recruits are having to make is to Turner's pinpoint passing skills. "In high school we didn't have anyone who dished like' Eric," said Henderson. "So now you have to think about receiving a pass. If you're open at all, Eric will get the ball to you." ANOTHER area that Turner and the recruits are trying to improve is on-court communications. "Eric and I have had some misunderstandings on plays where we didn't know each other's moves," said Among the players expected to participate are Terry Cummings (the second player selected in this year's NBA draft), Darryl Dawkins (Philadelphia 76ers), former Michigan star Campy Russell (New York Knicks), Terry Duerod (Boston Celtics), and Detroit Pistons' players Kent Benson, Terry Tyler and Walker D. Russell (fourth round draft choice in this year's draft). Although all league games are free of charge, this-All-Star game will have a $4 admittance fee. On Thursday and Friday, fans can see a number of stars free of charge beginning between 6:00 and 6:30. Playing in those games at Pioneer High School will be both Campy and Walker D. Russell, Detroit Piston first round draft choice Cliff Levingston, Piston sub- stitute Alan Hardy and former Michigan State stan- dout Greg Kelser. King files $20 million suit against WBA champ NEW YORK (AP)- Don King has filed a $20-million damage suit charging that Mike Weaver reneged on- a contract to defend his World Boxing Association heavyweight title against Michael Dokes in November. Don King Productions Inc. filed the suit late Monday in US. District Court. THE SUIT asks for a judgment declaring the title bout agreement executed with Weaver "to be a valid and binding contract." It also seeks an injunction barring Weaver from engaging in any professional boxing matches between Aug. 4 and Nay. 13. The suit named as defendants Weaver and Don Manuel, of Los Angeles, who court papers said "purports" to be Weaver's manager. The court complaint said that on June 24 Weaver sent a telegram to Don King in which "Weaver wrongfully repudiated the championship bout agreement." "DESPITE THE fact that Weaver and his attorney had both signed the agreement, this telegram incorrectly referred to the championship bout agreement as a 'draft' of a 'proposed' agreement which Weaver purported to reject," thecomplaint added. King claimed the agreement was signed last May 14 and included provisions that barred Weaver from fighting any bouts after July 1 until the ' match with Dokes except for a scheduled bout with Randall Cobb. The contract called for Weaver to fight Dokes between Aug. 20 and theZ end of September, the suit said.< HOWEVER, because of injuries the, bout with Cobb was postponed and the WBA later extended the deadline for the Dokes fight to Nov. 13. The suit sought to bar Weaver from" his match with Cobb if it did not take . x place by Aug. 3. Court papers said under the title bout contract Weaver was paid a $50,000 ...suig Weaver advance on July 2 by Don King and was to be paid $1.4 million for the match with Dokes. They added the contract further provides that if Weaver wins the fight with Dokes, Don King gets exclusive rights to promote a heavyweight championship bout between Weaver and Larry Holmes, World Boxing Council titleholder. ,Don King has agreed to pay Weaver $2 million for the fight with Holmes or 30 percent of the gate, whichever amount is greater, court papers said. "Weaver's services to Don King are irreplaceable," the complaint said. "It is not possible to ascertain with certainty money damages that Don King will incur as a result of lost profits from the boxing matches that King hasa right to promote pursuant to the championship bout agreement. Moreover, Don King's reputation and status asa boxing promoter will be irreparably injured if Weaver does not per- form pursuant to that contract." t EVERYTHING IN CAMPING DEPARTMENT ON SALE 0 0 oF 2O~4O OFF SPECIAL PRICE.
