Marsh, a second round Cardinal draft choice in 1980, only played four games last year due to in- jury. He is expected to press Greg LaFleur for starting time this year. Clayton was also drafted in the second round of the 1980 draft, by the New York Jets. The Jets switched Clayton from his college position of wide receiver to running back. The move was not a suc- cessful one and Clayton was eventually released from the team. St. Louis then picked him up and moved him back to wide receiver. Washington Redskins-None. San Francisco 49ers-Defensive back Dwight Hicks, center/guard Walt Downing, offensive tackle Bubba Paris. Hicks teamed up with three rookies in a starting secondary that showed remarkable imnprovement over the previous year. During the regular season, Hicks intercepted nine passes (third best in NFL) and returned them for 239 yards (a club record). Hicks also picked off a pass in the 49ers' Super Bowl victory over Cincinnati. Paris has all but been handed a starting job with the 49ers after being taken early in the second round of this year's draft. Paris was expected to start when he was draf- ted, and now that All-Pro guard Randy Cross has been injured, one of last year's starting tackles will replace him and Paris will start at tackle. Downing is a backup of the San Francisco offen- sive line. MICHIGAN'S BRIAN CARPENTER (9, above) and Butch Woolfolk (24, below) could find themselves going head to head next season, as both were drafted by NFC Eastern teams. Woolfolk was the New York Giants' first round draft choice, while Carpenter was taken in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys. Daily Photo
