The Silverdome was one of four sites being considered to host the 1987 or 1988 NCAA college basketball tournament's Final Four along with Kemper Arena in Kansas City, the New Orleans Superdome and Market Square Arena in In- dianapolis. NEW ORLEANS will host the Final Four in 1987 and Kan- sas City will do likewise in 1988, it was announced by the NCAA yesterday. "The record attendance figures and receipts were eviden- ce of the committee's belief that the 1982 Championships (held in New Orleans) was the best in NCAA history," said Dave Gavitt, Chairman of the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee. "Awarding the Superdome the 1987 Champion- ships signifies the excellent manner in which the Superdome administered the 1982 Championships. "Kansas City made an excellent presentation for the second year in a row, and the committee looks forward to returning the Championships to a city that has been in- strumental in developing the tradition of the NCAA basket- ball championships." Kansas City was the runner-up last year in its effort to secure the 1986 Final Four which will be held in Dallas. 1988 will mark the 10th time that Kansas City will host the Final Four. The last time it held the Final Four was 1964. The 1983 Final Four will be held in Alburquerque, N.M. In 1984, it will take place in the Seattle Kingdome. The 1985 Championships will be hosted by Lexington, Ky. 4 I
