Blue nine stumbles, 4-1

By JOE CHAPELLE
The Wolverine batsmen dropped
their eighth game of the season yester-
day by falling prey to Bowling Green, 4-
1, in a makeup game at Ray L. Fisher
Stadium.
Michigan was plagued by pitching
problems early in the game with the
Wolverines giving up three runs in the
third inning. Falcont third baseman
Jerry Drobnick started the Bowling
Green scoring, hitting a line double into
centerfield off a pitch from Wolverine
starter Jim Bartlett. Falcon catcher
Chris Shuping, the next batter for the
Falcons, then singled in Drobnick with
a line shot into center field.

BARTLETT then walked Bowling
Green's next two batters, shortstop
Scott Waak and second baseman Mark
Hall to load the bases. Chuck Froning
came in to relieve Bartlett but was
yanked by Wolverine coach Bud Mid-
daugh after giving up an RBI single to
Falcon right fielder Bob Zielinski. Bill
Shuta then replaced Froning. In total,
Bowling Green came away with three
runs in the inning and picked up their
fourth in the fifth inning.
The Wolverines only run of the game
came in the fifth - inning. Michigan's
Dave Stober took first after being hit by
a pitch from Falcon Larry Seeright.
Stober advanced on a single by senior

Jim Paciorek and came home on a Rich
Bair single into left field.
Paciorek provided most of the hitting
for the Wolverines, garnering three
hits-two singles and a double-in five
appearances at the plate with two
walks.
"WE JUST didn't get the hitting
today," said Middaugh. "Yesterday we
hit well but today we couldn't get
anything going." Middaugh mentioned
the strong wind which blew in from
right field through most of the game as
a possible factor affecting the
Wolverines' hitting.
Michigan will head to Indiana this
weekend to open a four-game series

with the Hoosiers. "Whenever we play
a Big Ten game it is a key game," said
Middaugh. "Especially now that the
season is getting down to the wire."
After their series with the Hoosiers,
the Wolverines will return to Ann Arbor
for a double-header the following
Tuesday against Wayne State.
